ENG 101

First-Year Composition

English 101 introduces students to college-level composing skills and strategies, allowing students to discover and practice the habits and skills successful composers routinely employ. This course aims to increase students’ abilities to develop ideas, express ideas effectively, and engage different literacies.

ENG 105

Advanced First-Year Composition

English 105 is an intensive, advanced first-year composition course that combines ENG101 and ENG102 in one session to prepare students for college-level writing. This course aims to increase students’ ability to develop ideas, express ideas effectively, and engage different literacies. It gives special attention to analytical and persuasive writing.

ENG 301

Writing for the Professions

Advanced practice in writing and editing expository prose. This course is designed for learners with varying backgrounds and career goals, to develop their writing skills for their current or future profession. It uses a rhetorical framework to examine and produce writing for different purposes in a professional setting, with a focus on digital contexts.

ENG 102:

First-Year Composition

ENG 102 will introduce students to college-level writing. This course aims to increase students’ ability to develop ideas, express ideas effectively, and engage different literacies. It gives special attention to expository and persuasive writing. Critical reading of articles, speeches, and other non-literary texts help students understand the rhetorical process, analyze audience and its cultural contexts, and foresee the audience’s response.

ENG 210

Intro to Creative Writing

Beginning creative writing in genres other than poetry and fiction. This is a lower-division elective writing course. It introduces students to basic creative writing techniques and strategies in short-form writing that may be applied across genres.

ENG 302

Business Writing

Advanced interdisciplinary writing course designed to improve the workplace writing competence of professional and preprofessional students. The course focuses on the practice and study of selected types of discourse employed in professional business situations and helps prepare students for different kinds of writing they will encounter in their professional lives.

ENG 317

Cross-Cultural Writing

This course is designed to teach students to better understand and analyze the cultural-historical influences on creative writing by exploring cultures outside of their own and by learning to write creative narratives from a perspective that is outside of their own. This approach can enable them to leverage what they know to understand difference in a critical, thoughtful way.
